Your prayers are being answered ladies, Free People is officially opening a store in Canada. Not only Canada, but they are coming to Toronto [and Calgary]. You thought it was super exciting when they came to The Bay back in March, but this is next level sh*t, so get ready! Opening August 3rd on Yorkville Avenue is a three-level, 1,500 square foot, Free People store. Staying true to their roots, the store is designed around the brand, with brick and hand carved wood, and is said to resemble a loft.
I could not be happier about this news. I heard rumours about it months ago, but now that the opening date is SO soon I am getting giddy with excitement. The store will carry products from Free People’s brands; FP One, We the Free, New Romantics, as well as vegan leather fashion pieces.
Beth Wehagen, FP’s Director of Stores exclaims, “We are incredibly excited to begin our retail expansion into the Canadian market. Our choice of Toronto as the first store in the market was an easy one given the city’s history as a forerunner in driving fashion and culture throughout the country.” We couldn’t agree with you more Beth.
The excitement doesn’t stop here though. Not only are us Canadians going to directly benefit from the two stores that are opening in both Canada and Calgary, but our online shopping is about improve as well. The retailer claims that Canadian e-customers will now have the option to pay the direct duty payment upfront, in order to avoid post-purchase charges. Let’s be honest, we all know that nobody likes those. Personally, I hate them.
Now what’s a store opening without an exciting launch party? Not much if I do say so myself. On August 2nd, from 6-8pm Free People will be hosting a grand opening event at the store. Ally Dean, Associate Editor of Elle Canada will be there providing styling tips on how to get ‘the Free People look’! The first fifty people to arrive will receive a FP iPhone case, and all guests will have the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Gotye at the Molson Amphitheatre, September 20th, or Grace Potter and The Nocturnals at The Phoenix, August 17th. On top of ALL OF THIS, two Free People gift bags will be given to two lucky winners at the end of the evening. It’s almost too much excited to handle in one night. Almost.
So ladies, try and sit tight for the next nine days, and then bring yourself to 79 Yorkville Avenue for the grand opening event. I’m sure it will be a night that you won’t want to miss xo
A list of the clothing I’m going to need out West:
- Calgary Stampede outfits (cowgirl hat, cowgirl boots, cut-offs, etc.)
- bar clothes for Lake Louise and Jasper adventures (LBD, skirt, wedges)
- comfortable clothing to hike in (including running shoes)
- day to day clothing
I think this is the most difficult trip I’ve ever had to pack for. So many different types of clothing for one seven day trip. Maybe this is why I’ve been putting it off for the past two days? I have to be at the airport for 5pm tomorrow, so when I wake up in the morning, it’s crunch time. Let’s hope I can squeeze everything into one suitcase!
